I don't know about the torque though. Alot of guys are usin this trans in high hp LSx builds. I think the first thing to fail in a stock calibrated TH400 due to power would usually be the direct clutches. The sprag is a weak point also but I think engine rpm is as much of a killer as power. I popped a piston, which is a common occurance among the boosted L36 and L67 crowd.
